The brewery
Hidden away in a corner of an industrial estate in the north of Halifax sits Oates Brewery. Behind the railings and the shutters lies a smart and shiny stainless steel brewing plant, run by former landlord Mark Oates and master brewer Richard Munro. Since setting up in October 2011, the pair have made their mark in brewing circles, picking up some awards along the way.
What beers are here?
Oates pride themselves on producing a core range of three tasty beers with 'responsible' ABVs - from the light, straw-coloured O.M.T (Oates Mean Time), at a very drinkable 3.8%, to the full-bodied Wild Oates (4.3%). The caramel-toned Golden Oates sits between the two with an ABV of 4.1%. The core range is supplemented by seasonal specials, such as the 'adventurous, hoppy and bold' Summit, which gives a nod to the area's prevalence in walking, mountain biking and outdoor activities.
Where to try?
Oates' Beers are always available at their unoffical brewery tap, The Booth Wood Inn and at Shibden Mill Inn in Halifax. They can also be tried at The Old Bridge in Ripponden, The Nook in Holmfirth and the Staff of Life in Todmorden.
