MALLINSONS BREWING COMPANY

The brewery
Mallinsons is run by Tara Mallinson and Elaine Yendall, former teachers who gave up the blackboard for the beer. Over a pint one night in 2003, the two real ale enthusiasts hatched a plan to earn a living doing something they loved and five years later, Mallinsons was born. Tara set about the brewing and by 2010, the business was successful enough for Elaine to chuck away the chalk as well. The business continues to grow and at time of writing, Mallinsons have just moved into larger premises.
What beers are here?
Tara and Elaine are both fans of hoppy beer and make the most of the fruity varieties now available from the New World. They brew a huge range of sessional beers, each bearing the Mallinsons logo of Huddersfield's Castle Hill. The regulars are also named after local landmarks: the citrussy Castle Hill (4.6%) Station Bitter (4.2%), Stadium Bitter (3.8%) and the chocolatey Emley Moor Mild (3.4%). Also look out for Citra, a single-hopped pale ale with tones of grapefruit, mango, and passion fruit - a multi-award winner!
Where to try
Mallinsons beers are regularly available at The Sportsman and other pubs across the Huddersfield area. The Jubilee Refreshment Rooms at Sowerby Bridge also sells Mallinsons from time to time. Bottled beer can be bought at Hinchliffe's Farm Shop, Keelham Farm Shop and Owls in Brighouse.
Did you know?
Mallinsons beer is veggie and vegan friendly - but meateaters are allowed to drink it too!
