The brewery
The Hay Rake is based at The Rake Tapas Bar on the outskirts of Littleborough. The landlord and chef there, Mark Wickham, is passionate about food and decided to brew his own ale to complement the varied and distinct flavours on his menu. In his own words, he wanted to provide "the full package" and he's been doing just that since August 2012.
What beers are here?
So far, Mark has produced three beers: Early Dawn, a refreshing, citrussy IPA; Dawn's Hopping Mad, with hints of chilli and ginger; and Dawn's Autumn Gold, a hoppy beer with liquorice overtones. In case you're wondering, Dawn refers to Mark's wife!
Where to try
Hay Rake beers are always on offer at the Rake, perfect to wash down your tapas. You might also find them just up the road at The White House or at the White Hart in Lydgate. Watch out for Mark popping up at regional beer festivals.
Did you know?
The Rake is a very old coaching inn and there was a micro-brewery on site during Victorian times. Luckily, the resident ghost doesn't seem to mind that brewing has recommenced!
