HAWORTH STEAM BREWERY

Picture
The brewery
Haworth Steam Brewery
is owned and run by Andy Gascoigne, who brewed at Oxenhope's Waggon & Horses before founding the Oyster Brewery on Argyll's Isle of Seil.  He's been back in his native Yorkshire since early 2011 and founded Haworth Steam Brewery in the yard behind Gascoigne's Bistro at the top of Main Street.  Now in the process of moving to larger premises, Andy says "We love good ale and we love brewing. We will continue to push the boundaries and just do what we do."

What beers are here?
Core beers include the refreshing and blonde WD Austerity (3.8%), named in tribute to the volunteers of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway who restored the heavy freight steam locomotive that was brought back from Sweden in 1973 and Ironclad 957 (4.3%), a caramelly stout named after the engine that starred in The Railway Children.   Fallwood XXXX (5.2%) and  True Tyke (3.8%) also pay tribute to Haworth's past and Yorkshire's brewing heritage.  Hurricane IPA is a special brew to mark the Haworth 1940s weekend held each May.

Where to try
The beers are on tap in Gascoigne's at the top of Main Street in Haworth.  Bottled varieties  can be found at Saltaire Wines of Shipley and Keelham Farm Shop.  Gift packs, glasses, t-shirts and pens are also on sale in Gascoigne's.

Did you know?
Andy is passionate about brewing and and could keep you amused for hours with stories of beers gone by.  Don't mention On Your Tod though, a beer that won awards at three different beer festivals over the same weekend.  However, the successful recipe was written on the back of a cigarette packet and got thrown away - years have been spent trying to remember it!
