GREENFIELD BREWERY

The brewery
Greenfield Brewery is run by Tony Harratt in a former weaving mill in the Saddleworth village of Greenfield. The site has its own supply of South Pennine spring water and is close to picturesque Dove Stone Reservoir, which is depicted on the brewery's pump clips and labels. Tony is proud to be part of the Greenfield community and holds regular open days for the public to meet the brewer.
What beers are here?
Greenfield's beers are named after Saddleworth villages, landmarks and events. The range includes Dobcross (4.1%), the amber-coloured Uppermill Ale, the golden and citrussy Delph Donkey (4.1%) and the dark Black 5 (4%). Special seasonal ales, including Whit Friday's Brassed Off are also brewed.
Where to try
Tony sells his bottled beers direct to the public from the brewery and they can also be found at Mossley Organic and Fine Food shop. Dobcross bitter is a best-seller at The Clarence Hotel in Greenfield and several local clubs also have a Greenfield ale permanently on tap.
Did you know?
Staff at the brewery have glimpsed a stranger passing through one of the doors in the mill. Nothing particularly strange about that, except he really does 'pass through' - the door doesn''t open! Is he the ghost of a millworker alledgedly killed in a bare-knuckle fight? Or is he linked to the fragment of gravestone lodged in the ground by the brewery entrance? As long as he keeps away from the beer, Tony doesn't mind too much!
